Characteristics Analysis of Field Winding Inter-Turn Short-Circuit Fault for Large-Capacity Synchronous Condenser Based on Stator Winding Asymmetric Branch Current

The early inter-turn short-circuit fault of field winding (ISFF) occurs between adjacent strands in a single rotor slot, which is significant safety hazard the transient operation large-capacity synchronous condenser. To realize high-precision detection ISFF, this paper proposes characteristics analysis method ISFF with strand as minimum unit. This combines novel stator asymmetric branch connection mode Compared coil unit, proposed can analyze slot and has higher resolution, especially suitable for electric excitation generators connections. results show that even harmonics components appear magnetomotive force partial current, 2nd harmonic component accounts largest proportion. Taking 5 turns 1 2-pole 3-branch condenser an example, 55.15 %, number branches current 66.67 % total branches. research provide theoretical support to avoid expansion.
